Danilo Gallinari Injury: Updates on Nuggets Star's Ankle and Return

Denver Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari has been held out of action since he injured his ankle against the New Orleans Pelicans on Dec. 20. It is unclear when he will be able to return to the lineup.

Injuries Stacking Up for Gallinari

Gallinari was already dealing with a deep bone bruise in his left leg that left him at less than 100 percent prior to the ankle injury.

Once a burgeoning young talent, injuries have all but halted Gallinari's ascent to stardom. He missed all of 2013-14 after suffering a torn ACL late in the 2012-13 campaign and was limited last year because of a meniscus tear in the opposite knee. While a strong run after the All-Star break earned Gallinari a contract extension, it was nonetheless curious given his tumultuous last couple of seasons. 

The latest injury is another frustrating blow for a former foundational piece whose career looks more and more like it'll be derailed by factors outside of his control. Gallinari and the Nuggets will hope for good news for that reason more than any.
