Cavaliers Set Franchise Record for Largest Halftime Lead

Bleacher Report MilestonesJan 24, 2015

The Cleveland Cavaliers set a franchise record for largest halftime lead Friday against the Charlotte Hornets, carrying a 75-40 advantage into the break, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The 35-point margin narrowly bested the previous record of 34, set back in 2008 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After jumping out to a 33-13 lead by the end of the first quarter, Cleveland outscored Charlotte 42-27 in the second quarter, giving the Cavs their sixth half with 75 or more points in franchise history, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.

The franchise record of 79 points in a half was set in October 1979 against the Detroit Pistons.

Friday's outing also marked the 26th time Cleveland has scored 42 or more points in a single quarter, with the franchise record of 46 unsurprisingly coming in that same game against the Pistons, per Basketball-Reference.com's play index.

Cleveland did slow down a bit in the second half, managing 28 points in the third quarter, followed by 26 more in the fourth.

The game ended with a final score of 129-90, and 13 different Cavaliers contributed to the scoring, led by LeBron James' 25 points.
