Bundesliga Matchday 1: Wolfsburg Back With a Bang
The season opener between the reigning champions and Stuttgart turned out to be much one-sided than expected. Let's roll back to May 2009.
Stuttgart 4:1 Wolfsburg (Stuttgart: Mario Gomez with 4 goals)
So now, we all know how much the new Bayern man meant to Stuttgart. Without him, Stuttgart lost 2-0. Wolfsburg were the better side and there is not much doubt about that. Zvejdan Misimovic opened the scoring by finishing off an exquisite team move. Grafite scored the second leaving his marker feeling quite forlorn.

What about the Bavarians? They travelled to the Rhein Neckar Arena to play Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim were arguably the better side. Due to Miro Klose's injury forced absence, Ivica Olic started. He scored the first goal after the Hoff defence failed to close Daniel Pranjic down.
Hoff were level terms though with Chinedu Obasi grabbing the goal. The Bayern defence should have closed the assist provider, Vedad Ibisevic but they failed to do so. As a result, the match finished 1-1. It was more of a case of two points lost for Bayern than one point gained.
Felix Magath could be seen raging down the touchline angrily in his first match in charge of Schalke in the Bundesliga. Kevin Kuranyi scored both goals for Schalke, even though his finishing wasn't the best.
In the 88th minute, Schalke allowed Nuremberg back with a goal from Marek Mintal much to the dismay of Magath. The match however finished 2-1 to Schalke.
Anyone remember Werder? Well, Werder gave a horrible defensive showing against Frankfurt that caused them to lose 3-2. They fell behind in the sixth minute from a goal by Ioannis Amanatidis. Werder pulled level through a Mesut Ozil penalty and took the lead through Sanogo. However Amanatidis scored again to level the scores and sub Martin Fenin parried the ball over the net to score the winner.
Dortmund started the season with a win despite not scoring. Due to an own goal by a Koln defender, Dortmund managed to put three points in the bag. Koln did not have either Milivoje Novakovic or Lukas Podolski in their starting line-up.
Bayer and Hamburg didn't start off too well. Bayer drew 2-2 against promoted Mainz courtesy of goals from Stefan Kiessling and Erin Derdiyok. Hamburg on the other hand drew with another promoted side, SC Freiburg. Jonathon Pitroipa scored for Hamburg but Tommy Bechmann pulled the scores level.
Bochum and Gladbach played out a drama-filled 3-3 draw. Gladbach were up 3-0 at halftime due to goals from Juan Arango, Robert Colautti and Rouel Broweurs. After the break, Bochum pulled two goals back, both through Mimoun Azaouagh. Dante then got sent off for Gladbach at the hour mark. Three minutes later, Stanislav Sestak equalized for Bochum.
Hertha started well by picking up all three points against Hannover. Gojko Kacar scored the only goal of the game.
Thus, Wolfsburg are sitting pretty at the top of the table. So, does anyone think Bayern will win their 22nd title this season?
