DeAndre Jordan Records a Block and Makes Half of Shots in 24 Straight Games
Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan broke an unusual record in Wednesday's 100-94 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, becoming the first player to make at least 50 percent of his field-goal attempts and block a shot in 24 consecutive games, per Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com).
The previous record of 23 such games was set by all-time leading scorer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the 1976-77 Los Angeles Lakers.
Jordan's streak began Nov. 29 against the Utah Jazz with a modest eight-point, 12-rebound performance in which he made all four of his field-goal attempts.
The 26-year-old center posted a much more formidable stat line in Wednesday's record-breaking outing, as he recorded 17 points, 18 boards and an assist while converting all eight of his field-goal attempts.
According to Elias, Jordan became the sixth player in NBA history to record 17 points and 18 rebounds with a perfect field-goal percentage on eight or more attempts. Wilt Chamberlain incredibly accomplished the feat nine times, while David Greenwood (1984), Otis Thorpe (1984), Dikembe Mutombo (1999) and Kris Humphries (2011) each did it once.
Boasting a 71.5 field-goal percentage and averaging 2.3 blocks per game this season, Jordan has an excellent chance to tack a few more games onto his record-setting streak, starting with Friday's contest against the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers.
