Carter-Williams Nursing Injured Toe
Friday, Feb. 6
Philadelphia 76ers fans might have thought this season couldn't possibly get any worse for their team. The loss of guard Michael Carter-Williams to injury is certainly going to put that theory to the test.
Sixers Director of Public Relations Michael Preston announced that Carter-Williams is out Friday, and possibly Saturday, with an injured toe on his right foot.
Carter-Williams has been one of the bright spots for Philadelphia during the team's great tanking experiment during the past few years. The 2014 Rookie of the Year averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds in his rookie season, and has continued to be one of the team's consistent performers.
He's expected to help form the core of a promising young team the Sixers are trying to build that includes Nerlens Noel—and will include Joel Embiid once he returns from injury and Dario Saric once he is able to join the team after finishing his tenure playing in Europe.
And with Philly heading toward another top-three pick this summer, Carter-Williams will also help usher in whatever young rookie the Sixers bring aboard next year.
The hope for the Sixers is that the worse things get now, the better they will be in the future. That might be little consolation for fans suffering through a dreadful season that now includes an injury to the team's most productive player.
