Quincy Acy Suspended 1 Game, John Wall Fined $15,000 for Altercation
New York Knicks forward Quincy Acy and Washington Wizards guard John Wall were involved in a skirmish late in the Wizards' 102-91 victory on Christmas Day. The NBA reportedly rendered punishment for both players one day later.
According to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports, Acy will be suspended one game for initiating the incident, and Wall will be fined for his role in the altercation:
The play occurred when Wall was attempting to drive toward the basket. Acy basically ran his body into Wall to prevent him from getting to the rim. Wall responded by shoving the Knicks forward, who proceeded to seemingly throw a punch that resulted in Acy being thrown out and Wall being assessed a technical foul.
After the game, Acy told reporters, via Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com, that he didn't throw a punch, but he "got up and reacted, then I just grabbed him."
The NBA didn't necessarily disagree with Acy's assessment, but since he was assessed a flagrant-2 foul, the league determined his actions warranted a suspension. Wall will be lighter in the wallet, though at least he can take solace in the win and the fact that Washington is one of the Eastern Conference's best teams.
With Wall avoiding a suspension and the Knicks struggling mightily in the Eastern Conference, the NBA's decision shouldn't have a major impact for either team moving forward.
