Alec NathanDec 23, 2014

In Kevin Love's first game against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 125-104, Tuesday night behind 29 points (12-of-19 shooting) and four assists from Kyrie Irving

Love was steady throughout, though, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in 36 minutes. LeBron James rounded out an excellent all-around effort from Cleveland's superstar triumvirate by pouring in 24 points (8-of-16 shooting, 4-of-7 from three) to go with four rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal.

After leading by eight at halftime, the Cavaliers (17-10) ripped off a 16-1 run to close the third quarter and compiled a 45-27 scoring edge over the game's final 15 minutes to run away with a third straight win.

All told, five Cavaliers players finished in double figures, including Dion Waiters (19) and Shawn Marion (11).

Anderson Varejao finished with six points and six rebounds but suffered a left leg injury that forced him to exit in the third quarter. He will be evaluated tomorrow before the Cavaliers square off against the Miami Heat on Christmas Day (5 p.m. ET, ABC).

As for the Timberwolves (5-22), Andrew Wiggins led the way with 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Zach LaVine (six points) was the only Minnesota starter who didn't finish in double figures as Gorgui Dieng tallied 20 points and 10 boards while Shabazz Muhammad and Thaddeus Young poured in 18 and 13 points, respectively.

While the Cavaliers shot 52 percent from the field and 50 percent from three, Minnesota converted just 44 percent of its total shots and 31 percent from distance.

The Timberwolves will be back in action Friday against the Denver Nuggets at 9 p.m. ET.
