The Arizona Cardinals began Week 15 with a 12-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams in a defensive struggle. Arizona now finds itself on the brink of a playoff berth, while St. Louis has been officially eliminated from postseason contention.

Looking ahead at the remaining contests chock-full of playoff implications this week, we should expect the postseason's outlook to shift dramatically once again.

The New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts can all clinch their divisions with wins on Sunday, and the Green Bay Packers can clinch a playoff berth and remain in contention for home-field advantage throughout the postseason with a win and a loss by the Dallas Cowboys.

Game of the Week

Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers

While this game may not make as many headlines as the bout between the Philadelphia Eagles and Cowboys on Sunday night or generate the kind of media circus surrounding rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel's first-career start, it holds some very severe playoff implications.

The Broncos clinch the AFC West with a win, but a victory will mean much more in terms of chasing a first-round bye and perhaps home-field advantage. After all, Denver can clinch a bye with a win and losses by the Colts, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers. A win would also keep the Broncos deadlocked with the Patriots in a race for the coveted position to remain at home throughout the playoffs.

Broncos VP of Public Relations Patrick Smyth tweeted the team's exact playoff scenarios for Week 15:

The Chargers are playing for their postseason lives. They are currently maintaining the No. 6 seed in the AFC's playoff race, but 8-5 Pittsburgh and the 8-5 Baltimore Ravens have favorable matchups against the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively. A loss by San Diego could quickly put the team on the outside looking in.

Denver and San Diego last met in a Week 8 clash that afforded the Broncos a 35-21 victory. In that bout, Peyton Manning hooked up with Emmanuel Sanders for three touchdown strikes, while running back Ronnie Hillman rushed for 109 yards. Things are a bit different in Denver now.

C.J. Anderson has emerged as the team's primary ball-carrier, and he's been phenomenal. The running back ripped off back-to-back performances of at least 160 yards rushing, followed by a three-touchdown showing the following week. He adds a dimension of a ground threat that Denver hasn't had for the bulk of this season.

Making the Broncos offense a bit scarier, tight end Julius Thomas will be back in action this week after missing the team's last three games. Having another weapon at Manning's disposal is not a good omen for a Chargers secondary that has seen numerous injuries throughout the season. Cornerback Brandon Flowers gave his thoughts on how to stop Manning, via Peter King of Sports Illustrated:

Still, all hope is not lost for San Diego. When it last faced off with Manning and Co., wide receiver Keenan Allen was just starting to find his groove for the year, catching nine passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Since then, he's rattled off two 100-yard performances and scored three more times.

Another big difference will be on the ground for the Chargers. Branden Oliver was the team's only option out of the backfield in Week 8, but now the team has finally had a chance to get healthy. Ryan Mathews has been back in the fold to shoulder the brunt of the team's carries, though his status is uncertain due to an ankle injury. Fortunately for San Diego, Donald Brown is healthy and remains a viable threat as a receiving option.

Both defenses have been playing well of late, as Denver ranks 14th against the pass and second against the run, while San Diego ranks eighth against the pass and 14th against the run. We shouldn't expect a shootout in this one, so the winner will ultimately be determined by which offense can remain more efficient throughout the game, winning the battle of field position and limiting turnovers.

While this game should be a close one, it's very difficult to bet against Manning in this situation.

Prediction: Broncos 28, Chargers 23
