Adam Rubin of ESPN has the latest on Gee from Mets' GM Sandy Alderson:

"

I'd say activity will pick up significantly in January across the board. That's probably the likely time frame for us as well."

Alderson reiterated that he'd like to trade an excess starting pitcher before spring training.

"There aren't that many deals that are made in spring training," Alderson said. "It's rare, I think, in my recollection. So we certainly don't rely on that. It's not ideal going into spring training knowing you have to make a deal. So I think if we're going to make a deal, we would probably be better off doing it sooner rather than later."

Mets Shopping Dillon Gee

Wednesday, Dec. 10

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reported Tuesday that New York is considering shipping Gee out of the Big Apple, and may even move another quality arm in Jonathon Niese:

Gee had a 7-8 record this past year with a 4.08 ERA and is a serviceable piece of the rotation. The Mets are fortunate in that they have a surplus of pitching on their current roster, though.

Ace Matt Harvey was out for this past season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and New York also has the reigning National League Rookie of the Year in Jacob deGrom.

Whether it's Gee or Niese who gets traded, it appears to be a win-win situation for a Mets club evidently intent on contending for the playoffs in the near future.

New York was 28th in batting average during the 2014 MLB season with a meager .239 team clip. Adding firepower to the lineup will likely help a team that still managed to go 79-83 take the next step toward the postseason.
