Williams Doesn't Travel with Back Injury

Saturday, Dec. 6

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a young team in the midst of a rebuilding movement, but it always helps to have a steady veteran hand on the court whenever possible. Unfortunately, it appears one of the team's elder statesmen will be out for the Wolves game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

According to Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, point guard Mo Williams did not make the trip to Sacramento due to a back injury:

The 32-year-old floor general is in his first year with Minnesota. In 16 games this season (seven starts), Williams has averaged a respectable 10.6 points, 6.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds in just under 27 minutes per contest.

With Ricky Rubio out due to a sprained ankle, Williams' injury means rookie Zach LaVine will likely have to run the show against the Spurs. This leaves the Wolves with a bit of a square peg-round hole problem at point guard, as it's not LaVine's natural position. He's averaging 8.1 points and 2.3 assists per game this season.
