Nene Out vs. Celtics
Washington Wizards star big man Nene Hilario will not play tonight against the Boston Celtics due to a sore knee.
Ben Standig of CSNWashington.com reported on Nene's status: "The Brazilian big man won't play due to a sore right knee, the team announced minutes before the 7:00 p.m. tip. Nene previously five games due to right plantar fasciitis, but returned for the previous two matchups."
Nene forms one of the NBA's most underrated froncourts alongside Marcin Gortat. The two veterans were instrumental in Washington's run to last year's conference semifinals, and they figure to be big contributors in boosting the Wizards even further up in the East.
However, injuries have caused Nene to miss considerable time since he joined the team. In two prior full seasons with Washington, Nene was out for 50 total games. He recently missed five games due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
History suggests the Wizards need to be cautious with Nene. They have enough pieces between Gortat, Paul Pierce and the young, electric backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal to stay competitive while Nene recovers from this latest ailment.
In the meantime, it will be up to a strong rebounder in Kris Humphries to fill in for Nene as the starting power forward.
