Young to Remain With Baltimore

Wednesday, Dec. 24

Roch Kubatko of MASN reports the latest on Young:

Orioles Hope to Keep Young

Thursday, Dec. 4

Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette made it publicly known Thursday that the Orioles aim to welcome Young back into the fold, according to Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun:

Young, 29, batted .302 with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 83 games this last season. He drove in four runs in four playoff games despite hitting just .222 in nine at-bats.

Baltimore has already lost two marquee players on the open market. Nick Markakis signed with his hometown club, the Atlanta Braves (h/t ESPN.com), while slugger Nelson Cruz fled to the Seattle Mariners on a four-year deal, per the Mariners' official Twitter account.

Duquette was named Sporting News' MLB Executive of the Year, and he certainly has his work cut out now. Holding onto Young, in addition to making other higher-profile moves to bolster the roster, will help sell Orioles fans on success during the 2015 MLB season.

However, letting the nine-year veteran slip and failing to add superior pieces to the clubhouse will make manager Buck Showalter's job to repeat as American League East divisional champions all the more challenging.
