Kobe Bryant and Rajon Rondo Eat Breakfast Together in Boston
December 4, 2014
Who knew a little bacon and eggs could dissolve one of the NBA’s longest standing rivalries?
ESPN’s Baxter Holmes spotted Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant sharing breakfast with Boston Celtics mainstay Rajon Rondo on Thursday in Boston. Holmes didn’t mention where the meal took place, but it looks a little more upscale than your neighborhood Dunkin’ Donuts.
With Rondo slated to hit free agency after this season, perhaps he and Bryant were contemplating a future together in Los Angeles. Rondo could be on his way to L.A. even sooner if the Celtics decide to deal him before the trade deadline, as Holmes pointed out:
Rondo has a history with Los Angeles after spending his birthday there this past February, per Zach Harper of CBS Sports. Bryant and Rondo have always shared a mutual respect, playfully calling each other "a--holes" earlier this year.
Of course, Celtics fans have a tendency to get carried away. When Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe noted that Kevin Love dropped by for a visit this summer, many assumed the appearance meant he was on his way to TD Garden. Instead, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett.
So let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Maybe the encounter was as simple as two longtime pals enjoying the most important meal of the day.
Don’t expect Rondo and Bryant to be this chummy Friday night when the Celtics host the Lakers.
