Barclays Center Classic 2014: Teams, Schedule, Live Stream, Bracket, TV Info
Virginia came into the season as a legitimate national title contender, and it will try to show what it can do on a big stage.
The Cavaliers won the ACC last season and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, although they still didn't get the respect they felt they deserved. While the Barclays Center Classic isn't the most loaded field, this will be a chance for many fans to truly see what this team can do.
Of course, the other three teams in the field are not going to just roll over for a Top 10 opponent. Rutgers, Vanderbilt and LaSalle each have dreams of dancing in March, and a win at this tournament would go a long way.

Top Player to Watch: Myles Mack, Rutgers

Although Myles Mack hasn't seen too much team success in his career, the senior guard has not been the problem, as he has become one of the best offensive players in the country.
The New Jersey native came into the year with 1,228 points and is on pace for his best career year with averages of 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game to start the season.
Sports Illustrated is expecting even more from the player this season, projecting him to finish seventh in the country in points per game.
The problem is he has not received too much help around him, as Jerry Carino of Gannett New Jersey newspapers noted in the first game of the year:
Mack could struggle to help his team get a win at this tournament, but he will certainly be fun to watch.
Most Intriguing Team: LaSalle

Although LaSalle might not be the most talented team in Brooklyn this week, it should be much better than last year.
After going 15-16 a year ago, head coach John Giannini has recommitted his team to defense, and the difference has been apparent in the first four games. Mike Jensen of The Philadelphia Inquirer believes this team isn't going to fly under the radar for too long:
The big difference, though, has been Auburn transfer Jordan Price. The 6'5" guard has increased his scoring load in each game so far, totaling eight, 18, 21 and 30 points in four contests. He is not afraid to shoot whenever he has the ball (for better or worse), and it has given the Explorers a jolt on offense.
Even if LaSalle doesn't win this tournament, it can show it is a real threat in the Atlantic 10 by competing well in Brooklyn.
Predicted Winner: Virginia

It's the obvious choice for a reason, as Virginia has one of the most efficient teams in the nation.
The Cavaliers had one of the best defenses in the country a year ago and are right back at it with just 44.6 points allowed per game so far this season. The biggest thing for the squad is to continue improving after last year's success.
Head coach Tony Bennett explained the mindset before the start of the season, via Anna K. Clemmons of ESPN.com:
"I've used the quote that a high school coach told me, 'Always thankful, never satisfied.' I don't think you can not address last year, but you also can't sit there and live in it. It's that idea of our program continuing to embrace what they have to do. We need to be just as hungry and have that worker mentality.
"
The most important mentality the players believe in is unselfishness, as everyone is more concerned with wins than personal numbers. The backcourt of London Perrantes and Malcolm Brogdon exemplify that more than anyone as two of the most underrated players in the country.
With Justin Anderson stepping up his performances on the offensive end as well, Virginia should be able to dominate this tournament by shutting down LaSalle and Vanderbilt in the two games.
