Hassan Whiteside Signed by Heat After Shannon Brown Waived
The Miami Heat made a move to bolster their frontcourt by promoting Hassan Whiteside from the NBA Development League's Iowa Energy and waiving guard Shannon Brown.
An official news release through NBA.com confirmed the Heat's transaction on Monday. The team's official Twitter account highlighted how dominant Whiteside has been for the Energy this year:
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald alluded to the circumstances in South Beach that warranted the move to bring Whiteside aboard:
It remains to be seen whether Whiteside can carry over a momentous start to the NBA level, but Miami needs serious help up front. The Heat ranked last in the NBA entering Monday's games with just 36.4 rebounds per contest.
Although Brown had started Miami's previous two games, the perimeter rotation has plenty of depth at both guard positions.
Size is something the Heat have lacked in recent years. If they can rebound better, it will only improve their chances to contend in the Eastern Conference even with the massive loss of LeBron James this last offseason.
