Coaches vs. Cancer Classic 2014: Championship Schedule, Live Stream and More
It seems like the 2014 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic has the potential to be nothing more than a Duke invitational.
The Blue Devils have gotten off to a hot start this year with dominant wins over Presbyterian and Fairfield before earning a 10-point win over Michigan State that was much more one-sided than the final score would indicate.
Of course, the rest of the teams in Brooklyn are not going to simply lay down and become Duke's next victims. UNLV, Stanford and Temple each possess plenty of ability and are all looking for a possible resume-building win early in the year.

Top Player to Watch: Chasson Randle, Stanford

There will be plenty of scouts watching a number of players in this tournament, but arguably the most exciting one to watch at this event is Chasson Randle.
The senior guard is one of the best scorers in the nation, averaging 18.8 points per game last season and making shots outside the arc while also being willing to drive into the lane and finish at the rim. He came into the season with 1,651 points scored and is quickly climbing the list as one of the best players in Cardinal history.
Over the summer, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports predicted Randle to be conference player of the year over some top competition:
If he wants to truly help Stanford, though, he will need to be more of a facilitator this season. The star player has never averaged more than three assists per game in his first three years, but he needs to find ways to create opportunities for others besides just himself.
Randle has a chance to be one of the best guards in the nation if he can expand his game this season.
Team that Could Surprise: UNLV

UNLV has barely escaped with two wins in two games over Morehead State and Sam Houston State. That being said, each of these opponents is better than your average mid-major, and these victories will be quality building blocks for the season.
The Rebels are aided by an outstanding freshman class, featuring Rashad Vaughn, Goodluck Okonoboh and Dwayne Morgan. It is clear Vaughn has already taken on a leadership role on this team, as noticed by Mitch Moss of ESPN1100 in the last game:
In two games, Vaughn is averaging 22 points and is already showing why he could become one of the best scorers in the nation this season.
Meanwhile, senior transfer Cody Doolin has become the team's offensive catalyst with seven assists in each game.
Of course, this leaves a problem when so many of the squad's vital players are newcomers. This could lead to a slow start to the season before peaking in March. However, the talent on the roster shows that this group can surprise anyone this year.
Predicted Winners: Duke

While this might not be the boldest decision, it is hard to imagine Duke losing to one of these teams.
Jahlil Okafor, Justise Winslow and Tyus Jones might be freshmen, but they are already showing they can do a lot to help the team win. Okafor especially has impressed, averaging 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds while appearing like a player of the year candidate through three games.
Amazingly, head coach Mike Krzyzewski thinks the young center will get even better as the year progresses, via Ryan Hoerger of The Duke Chronicle:
"He just has to learn what he can do. He got called for a couple offensive fouls, and people are going to bang on him. I thought he handled things well, but people are going to play multiple guys on him. What they didn’t do tonight is double him, and he’ll see that too. It’s a learning curve for him, and maybe by the time we start conference play he’ll really be good.
"
When teams do decide to double-team Okafor, it will leave open a plethora of shooters on the perimeter to make the Blue Devils almost impossible to stop.
Adding the experience of Quinn Cook and others, this is a deep roster that should be able to cruise to victory against Temple before topping either Stanford or UNLV in the finals.
