Robert Griffin III, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon Post-Week 11 Fantasy Reaction

Tyler ConwayNov 16, 2014

So maybe the Colt McCoy era wasn't so bad after all. With two first-half interceptions, Robert Griffin III helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on their way to a 27-7 win over Washington.

Griffin gifted the Buccaneers 10 points, including a Johnthan Banks pick-six, as the Washington offense has struggled under the weight of strong Tampa Bay pressure. The Buccaneers brought Griffin down six times and forced him into a number of check-downs to his running backs and tight ends.

What looked like a favorable fantasy matchup coming into Sunday has instead turned out to be a nightmare, with Griffin's struggles trickling down to his receivers.

DeSean Jackson had 35 yards on four receptions and Pierre Garcon six on one catch. Jackson came into Week 11 with four 100-yard performances in his last five games. Garcon, though Washington's most reliable receiver, continues to be strangely phased out. The NFL's receptions leader a year ago has had less than five grabs in five of his last six games and hasn't been targeted more than six times since Week 3.

As is the case in most scenarios, Washington is due for a mean regression. Griffin hasn't suddenly become a bad quarterback overnight. He's still getting his sea legs back after returning from an ankle injury, and Jay Gruden hasn't been dialing up many designed runs. Once he's more comfortable in the system, Griffin should settle into being a top-10 guy.

Jackson is one of the highest variance plays in fantasy. If he gets a pass over the top, he's an elite option. If he doesn't, he'll walk out of a game with three receptions for 30 yards and be a disappointment. Starting him is a must in all formats, but he's not going to become reliable while being used in this capacity.

Garcon? Well, you can probably drop him. Or, at the very least, keep him out of your lineup for the foreseeable future.
