Gillian Zucker Hired as LA Clippers' President of Business Operations

Matt FitzgeraldNov 6, 2014

The Los Angeles Clippers filled a vital role on Thursday, announcing Gillian Zucker as the franchise's new president of business operations.

ESPNLosAngeles.com's Arash Markazi reported the news of Zucker's hiring, including what owner Steve Ballmer had to say about Zucker's arrival.

"I am extremely happy to add a leader like Gillian to our team," said Ballmer through a statement. "Her clear and creative business vision, innovative approach to marketing and experience working in the Los Angeles sports market make her the perfect fit to lead the Clippers during this transcendent time."

Clippers.com's Rowan Kavner added context to Zucker's background in professional sports:

Markazi's report also featured Zucker's thoughts on arriving in the City of Angels, where she expressed excitement about the beginning of Ballmer's ownership tenure.

"What an exciting time to be part of the L.A. Clippers," said Zucker. "There's something special happening in this organization that has captured the attention of Los Angeles, the NBA and the nation. Steve Ballmer's energy and enthusiasm is contagious and inspiring. We are just getting started."

There is plenty of reason for Zucker to be optimistic about her future with the Clippers organization. The unfortunate saga involving disgraced ex-owner Donald Sterling is being pushed further into the background, as Ballmer and Zucker lead the team into a promising new era.

The Western Conference promises to be tough as coach Doc Rivers' squad chases a championship amid the 2014-15 NBA season, per ESPN Stats & Info's Alok Pattani:

But with a title-winning coach in Rivers, along with a strong roster featuring All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, L.A. figures to be a major factor in the race to this year's Larry O'Brien Trophy.

Whatever adversity the Clippers endure throughout the year, the run their nucleus made in the most recent NBA playoffs will certainly help.

Having a strong foundation in the front office to improve the inner workings of the organization makes matters easier too. Zucker is thus indeed an excellent addition to bolster the Clippers' infrastructure and continue the effort to promote their brand and basketball in a positive way.
