Fantasy Football Week 10: Flex and PPR Rankings

Donald WoodNov 4, 2014

After a lopsided edition of Monday Night Football ended Week 9, fantasy football owners have already shifted their focus to the pivotal Week 10 matchups and the latest flex and point-per-reception rankings.

Injuries have plagued teams in every formatted fantasy league, but the inclusion of six teams on bye (Indianapolis, Minnesota, New England, San Diego, Washington and Houston) will force owners to reach deep onto their bench.

Here are the overall flex and PPR rankings for Week 10. When in doubt, start the higher-ranked player on each list.

A player who has emerged as a viable flex start in standard-scoring leagues is Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson. The converted quarterback has adapted to the NFL and has emerged as a legitimate threat on the ground.

Robinson ran the ball 17 times on Sunday against Cincinnati and amassed 94 yards and a touchdown. Over the last three games, he has racked up 329 yards and has two touchdowns, making him one of the more reliable backs in the league.

Jacksonville plays the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10. As tough as the Dallas defense has been, the unit allows 113.2 yards per game and will be susceptible against the elusive Robinson. Fantasy owners should expect 18 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown Sunday.

ESPN fantasy writer Christopher Harris talked about Robinson’s success on Fantasy Underground, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com:

"

What distinguishes Robinson is speed. Straight-line line speed. Really fast to the hole and then he goes. I think the line does seem to be playing better. Or, I guess you could say, maybe having a guy who gets there in the blink of an eye makes them seem better. What I haven’t really seen yet from him so far is open-field agility. I’m not saying he doesn’t have it, because we saw it at Michigan. He has some wiggle. He has some moves, but you haven’t seen much of it in abundance.

"

Another player worth starting as a flex play is Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant. Over the first three games with Bryant in the lineup, he has 10 receptions for 167 yards and five touchdowns and has become a top end-zone target for Ben Roethlisberger.

With Antonio Brown drawing double coverage from most defensive units, Bryant has been given ample opportunities to find open space. Even in zone coverage, Bryant has the ability to rise up and catch the ball at its highest point.

Against a New York Jets defense that has lost eight straight games, the red-hot Steelers will lean on Bryant heavily once again. Fantasy owners should expect five receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown.

The king of PPR leagues over the last several weeks has been Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Even with starting quarterback Nick Foles going down with a broken collarbone, according to Phil Sheridan of ESPN.com, Maclin is still a dangerous weapon in fantasy leagues.

As seen when backup Mark Sanchez stepped in and took the starting job, Philadelphia will still lean on Maclin to be a deep threat. As Colleen Wolfe of NFL Network pointed out, Maclin is a weapon for anyone under center:

Over the last two games, Maclin has 345 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Against a beatable matchup versus the Carolina Panthers, fantasy owners should expect six receptions for 100 yards and one touchdown.

A player who continues to prove just how talented he really can be is Denver Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman. Since taking over for the injured Montee Ball, Hillman has emerged as a threat in the rushing game and the passing attack.

While Hillman was stifled on the ground against New England in Week 9, he focused his effort into the passing game and caught seven passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Fantasy owners love production, regardless of how it happens.

With the ability to run the ball and catch it out of the backfield, Hillman has become one of Peyton Manning’s favorite weapons. Fantasy owners should expect 130 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in a favorable matchup against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
