The Charlotte Bobcats will be without the services of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist for the immediate future.
The team announced via Twitter that the small forward suffered a rib contusion Sunday against the New York Knicks and is listed as day-to-day:
Kidd-Gilchrist attempted to collect a rebound and ended up falling hard on his side. Considering how violent the fall looked, he looks to have dodged a major bullet. You can see the incident below.
This promises to be a big year for Kidd-Gilchrist. Through his first two seasons, the 21-year-old built a reputation as a great perimeter defender with one of the ugliest shots in the league.
While continuing to work with Hornets assistant coach Mark Price, Kidd-Gilchrist's gradually improved as a shooter. The early returns from 2014-15 are encouraging. Through three games, he's averaging 11.3 points a game on 68.7 percent shooting.
After signing Lance Stephenson in the offseason, Hornets management made it clear that a run to the playoffs is the minimum expectation.
In order for Charlotte to match last year's success and then take the next step, it will need Kidd-Gilchrist to get back to 100 percent.
