Johnson Active for Week 7

Sunday, Oct. 25

Johnson was not listed among the team's inactives against the Oakland Raiders.

Johnson an Underrated Threat for Chargers Offense

Johnson spent his first six seasons with the Buffalo Bills and was the team's top option in the passing game. He caught at least 75 passes and accumulated at least 1,000 receiving yards in three straight seasons from 2010 to 2012, hauling in 23 touchdown passes in that time.

Things soured in 2013, however, as injuries and mediocre quarterback play led to just 52 catches for 597 yards and three touchdowns. Things didn't get much better with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014, as he caught 35 passes for 435 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.

That led to the Chargers signing him this past offseason, and he made an immediate impact before the injury. The former seventh-round pick has 18 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns thus far.

His production hasn't come as a surprise to Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich despite his struggles over the past couple of seasons, according to ESPN.com's Eric D. Williams.

"He's not just a complementary receiver; he's a money player for us," Reich said. "This guy has No. 1 qualities. He has those playmaker qualities that you look for, and that a quarterback looks for. When we signed him, we all knew what we had. We watched the film."

A big reason for his success thus far has been his impeccable route running, as pointed out by Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus:

With Antonio Gates out for Week 7, Johnson's return will help add versatility to the San Diego offense.
