Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo won't play in the team's preseason game against Brazil's Flamengo team due to a knee injury.
According to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, Oladipo and Channing Frye will both sit out Wednesday's matchup:
Oladipo, who was taken with the second overall pick in the 2013 draft, sprained the MCL in his right knee during a scrimmage Oct. 3, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. He's already missed Orlando's first three preseason games against Miami, Indiana and Charlotte.
In a separate report from Robbins on Oct. 10, the Magic were encouraged by Oladipo's recovery but noted the team was going to be cautious with the 22-year-old:
"Oladipo ran some full-court sprints under the supervision of Magic head strength and conditioning coach Bill Burgos prior to the Magic's preseason game against the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday," Robbins wrote.
Orlando is still in the midst of a rebuilding phase after trading Dwight Howard two years ago. Oladipo is one of the staples this franchise wants to build around. He had a solid rookie season, averaging 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
This year, with rookies Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton, the Magic are hoping to have one of the most exciting and dynamic young trios in the league. Oladipo's return is essential to any success the team is going to have this year.
