Patriots' Tom Brady Reaches 50,000 Passing Yards for Career

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 6, 2014

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady became the sixth player in NFL history to reach 50,000 career passing yards when he completed a 27-yarder to tight end Rob Gronkowski in the first quarter of Sunday's 43-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, per NFL Network's Albert Breer.

Amid growing concerns about his longevity, the 37-year-old Brady was sharp in Sunday's blowout, completing 23 of his 35 pass attempts for 292 yards, with two touchdowns and no fumbles or interceptions.

Despite facing its toughest opponent to date, the New England offense finally jelled in Sunday's contest, moving the ball successfully with both the run and pass for the first time this season.

Brady's 292 passing yards were complemented by 220 team rushing yards on 46 carries, with that total including negative-four yards on three kneel-downs by backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

All in all, the Patriots finished with a season-high 505 yards of total offense, just one week after being held to 290 yards in 41-14 Monday Night Football loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

With both Brady and his shaky offensive line back on track, the veteran is primed to reach the top five on the all-time passing yards list well before the end of this season. Fifth-place John Elway has 51,475 career passing yards, sitting just 1,243 ahead of Brady's 50,232.

Looking further up, the list is topped by Brett Favre (71,838), followed by Peyton Manning (66,257), Dan Marino (61,361) and Drew Brees (52,655).

While unlikely to catch Favre, the 38-year-old Manning or the 35-year-old Brees, Brady could perhaps make a run at Marino, who sits 11,129 yards away.
