Colts' Andrew Luck Sets Franchise Record with 13 Touchdown Passes in 1st 4 Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesSep 30, 2014

With 13 touchdown passes through Week 4, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has set a franchise record for most scoring passes in the first four games of a season, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The old record, of course, belonged to current Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who threw 11 touchdown passes in his first four games for the Colts in both 2004 and 2010. The first of those seasons ended with Manning throwing for 48 touchdowns to set a new NFL record that has since been broken twice, including by Manning himself last season.

Coming off back-to-back four-touchdown games against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans, Luck is on pace for a record-setting season of his own.

While his stats will likely drop off once the competition gets tougher, the third-year quarterback is on pace for 5,220 passing yards and 52 touchdowns. The first number would represent the fourth-best single-season yardage total in league history, while the second would leave him in second place on the single-season touchdowns list, behind only the 55 that Manning threw last year.

Luck is the NFL leader in most of the key counting stats for quarterbacks, including passing touchdowns (13), passing yards (1,305), completions (115) and pass attempts (171).

His efficiency stats are a bit more modest, with his 108.0 passer rating good for fifth in the league, while his 68.9 completion percentage ranks just seventh. Luck's 7.81 yards per pass attempt are only good enough for ninth place, and his 80.7 total QBR is fifth best in the league, per ESPN.com.
