Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 4

Donald WoodSep 28, 2014

The Miami Dolphins took advantage of the favorable matchup against the Oakland Raiders in London and spent the day airing the ball out to wide receivers Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.

Miami’s offense had been disappointing for fantasy owners coming into Week 4, but quarterback Ryan Tannehill came out fast, going 17-of-19 worth 204 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. He finished the day with 278 yards after the team took its foot off the throttle in the second half.

Here’s how the targets were distributed among Wallace, Hartline and the rest of the Dolphins:

It’s tough to imagine the Dolphins' offense putting up the same numbers each week against much tougher AFC East defenses than Oakland’s, but this is a major confidence boast to an offensive unit that has been plagued by inconsistency.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Wallace was Tannehill’s favorite target. Through the first three weeks of the season, Wallace had racked up 17 receptions for 211 yards and two touchdowns. On the other hand, Hartline only managed to snag 10 receptions for 87 and one touchdown over the same period.

While consistency will be a major concern for fantasy owners, Wallace is the much safer fantasy play. His numbers may be dependent on touchdowns to be a true game-changer, but he is the team’s top red-zone target.

Hartline will always be a matchup play. He is worth having on your roster in most standard scoring leagues, but owners will have to start him in weeks where he will have a favorable matchup against a weaker secondary.

Miami has a bye in Week 5, but the Dolphins return against three straight defenses that can be beat in Green Bay, Chicago and Jacksonville.

Fantasy owners should be buying into the Miami wide receiver group for the next few weeks and then sell high before the schedule gets more difficult in the second half of the season.
