Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks left Monday night's game at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Indianapolis Colts with a calf injury.
The Eagles' official Twitter account reported on Kendricks' status:
Bleacher Report's Adam Lefkoe noticed Kendricks' absence from the gridiron:
Philly defensive coordinator Billy Davis praised Kendricks before Monday's game, though he noted that the 2012 second-round pick had room to improve.
"He's playing faster, but he still can grasp the defense to another level," said Davis, per Philly.com's Zach Berman. "Mychal is a phenomenal athlete that can make a lot of plays, but [you] unleash that ability to make plays when your brain is working slower and it comes easy to you."
Head coach Chip Kelly has brought an exciting brand of innovative, uptempo offense amid his second season with the Eagles. The other side of the ball is what Philadelphia needs to pick up in order to become a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Kendricks can help that cause when he's on the field. Losing a playmaker like him would be a big loss, as he's an important cog in the front seven with his speed, range and ability to pressure the quarterback as a blitzer.
It will be up to Casey Matthews to pick up the slack until Kendricks is healthy enough to come back and continue his promising development as an Eagles defensive leader.
