Owen Daniels, Dennis Pitta's Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 2

Scott PolacekSep 11, 2014

Perhaps the only people happier than the Baltimore Ravens when Owen Daniels found the end zone multiple times Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers were fantasy football owners.

Here is a look at the final Week 2 stats for Daniels and fellow tight end Dennis Pitta:

Daniels had 28 receiving yards for Baltimore, but it was the touchdowns that gave him value for fantasy purposes. The Ravens' assistant director of public and media relations, Patrick Gleason, noted that it was business as usual for the tight end:

Of course, the flip side of Daniels’ targets in the red zone is the lack of targets for tight end Dennis Pitta. Pitta did have 30 receiving yards, but fantasy owners need their tight ends to rack up the targets near the end zone more so than the middle of the field.

Unless you have Jimmy Graham, Julius Thomas or Vernon Davis, touchdowns are almost always more important than yards for tight ends.

Of course, this being fantasy football, it was Pitta who impressed in Week 1 while Daniels was rather quiet. Pitta tallied 83 receiving yards against the Cincinnati Bengals, and Daniels only notched 34 receiving yards.

The good news if you have either of these tight ends on your team is that the tight ends are getting targets. With Steve Smith and Torrey Smith on the outside, the passing game is opening up over the middle for Joe Flacco, and the tight ends are the beneficiaries.

However, the two-tight end system is frustrating for fantasy owners because the one you don’t have on the roster could be the player getting the targets on any given week.

It was Daniels owners who enjoyed Week 2.
