Cardinals.com's Darren Urban has more on Abraham:
"Arians said doctors told John Abraham after he failed another concussion test Thursday that he needed to sit out at least a year, which led to the IR move. It certainly looks like Abraham’s career is over, and that’s probably a good thing.

NFL.com's Kevin Patra has an update from head coach Bruce Arians on Abraham:
"John Abraham is ready to rejoin his team, but first he must pass concussion protocol.
Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said in an interview with Alex Marvez and Bill Polian on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Abraham failed that concussion test on Tuesday.
[...]
Arians' said at the time Abraham told him that "his heart isn't in the game anymore." However, Arians said after talking to the NFL's active sack leader again this week, he now believes Abraham is "more than ready" to play once he passes protocol.
"He's excited (to play)," Arians said. "When you get that first concussion, and he had a big one, it shakes you up sometimes. I think the rest and sitting back this weekend at home, he missed it a lot. He's more than ready to roll for down the stretch."

Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com provides a statement from Cardinals general manager Steve Keim discussing Abraham's future:
"The Cardinals do not yet know if linebacker John Abraham will retire or not. General Manager Steve Keim, Monday on his weekly appearance on the 'Doug and Wolf' show, said the team is still giving the veteran his space and that the team expects Abraham’s decision 'in the next 24 hours.' Certainly there remains a chance Abraham could end up playing against the 49ers. 'That’s a tough question,' Keim said. We know Bruce Arians (half-)joked yesterday he was hoping someone — someone being Abraham — came out of retirement to help the pass rush. The funny thing is, if Abraham does return, there is no guarantee he’ll produce. But the Cardinals want to be able to find out.

Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com reports on John Abraham's status after undergoing testing for a concussion in Week 1 against the Chargers:
Original Text
The Arizona Cardinals may be without John Abraham for the duration of their Monday night game against the San Diego Chargers.
The team's training staff was testing the veteran pass-rusher for a concussion, and his return is listed as questionable, per Kent Somers of AZCentral.com:
Although Abraham had yet to record a tackle before he left the game, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller was impressed with the way he was handling the Chargers' tackles on the edge:
Despite his age, Abraham's shown few signs of slowing down. The 36-year-old is in his second season with the Cardinals. He played all 16 games last year, racking up 11.5 sacks.
Concussions are extremely tricky to forecast in terms of how much time athletes miss. Abraham might be back next week, or he could miss half of the season. Everybody responds differently to the injury.
What isn't in doubt is how integral Abraham is to the Cardinals defense. Arizona's front seven will have a hard time replicating his production for as long as he's out.
