NFL Week 2 Picks: Early Predictions for Every Game

Brian MaziqueSep 8, 2014

After an exciting opening week, injuries and performances have altered several teams' outlooks for the rest of the season. It's early, and we don't have all the information on player availability, but some teams are clearly looking better than others heading into Week 2 of the season.

Before we know it, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens will be renewing acquaintances in their storied rivalry Thursday night.

Which teams will remain undefeated, climb or fall to .500, or drop into a dreadful 0-2 hole?

Pittsburgh Won't Experience Second-Half Letdown Against Baltimore

For one half, the Pittsburgh Steelers dominated the Cleveland Browns. But going into the locker room with a 27-3 lead seemed to cause Pittsburgh to take its collective foot off the gas pedal.

In the second half, it blew the lead and needed a game-winning field goal by Shaun Suisham to win 30-27 and save the team from embarrassment.

Aside from the second-half collapse, the Steelers played extremely well.

Against a decent Browns defense, the Steelers racked up nearly 500 total yards with a balanced offense. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 365 passing yards, and Le'Veon Bell ran for 109. This Steelers offense is as good as any in the last five years.

Against Baltimore, it shouldn't have much of a problem moving the ball.

Without the benefit of a steady rushing attack, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton threw for 301 yards against Baltimore in Week 1. The Ravens secondary didn't look strong, and the open-field tackling left a lot to be desired across the board.

Against the Steelers, the Ravens will be victimized.

The Niners Will Send the Bears to 0-2

Jay Cutler proved himself to be the same feast-or-famine quarterback in the Chicago Bears' Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Heading into the season, all the talk was about Cutler making huge strides in his second year in head coach Marc Trestman's offense. While he made a few nice throws and passed for 349 yards against the Buffalo Bills, his mistakes were huge factors in the Bears' defeat.

Cutler's inexplicable second-half throw that was picked off by defensive tackle Kyle Williams was the worst of all the mishaps. The Bears were on the cusp of Robbie Gould's range for a field goal, which would have given the team the lead.

There's no way a 31-year-old veteran such as Cutler should be making that play.

In a prime-time game against a San Francisco 49ers team that is looking to open Levi's Stadium with a bang, the moment and the studs on the Niners defense will force Cutler to make more mistakes.

The end result will be an 0-2 start for Chicago and a 2-0 beginning for the Niners. If San Francisco can stay afloat until it starts to get some of its defensive playmakers back, the team could be a major threat in the NFC.
