Kevin Durant Gets Triple-Double Against 76ers While Continuing 30-Point Streak

Joe FlynnJan 25, 2014

Fear not, Thunder fans: The Kevin Durant show is once again on the air.

The Durant offensive juggernaut suffered a brief, one-game hiatus as the league's scoring leader sat out Oklahoma City's 101-83 win over the Boston Celtics on Friday night with a sore shoulder. But Durant returned 24 hours later, just in time for the Thunder to stretch their winning streak to seven games with a 103-91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

So how did Durant perform in his first game back from injury? Not bad...by Durant standards. Heย onlyย scored 32 points, but made up for it with 14 rebounds and 10 assists, good for his second triple-double of the season.

In a post-game interview with Matt Pinto, Durant spoke of trusting his teammates, per the Thunder's official website:

Perhaps Durant felt more obliged to feed his teammates following their impressive win on Fridayโ€”the first game in franchise history played without both Durant and Russell Westbrook.

But make no mistake: Durant is still scoring at a historic pace, per ESPN Stats and Info:

According to Bleacher Report's Adam Fromal, Durant still has a ways to go if he wants to match the longest 30-point streak in the last 20 years: Kobe Bryant's stretch of 16 games in 2003.

Believe it or not, Saturday's 32-point performance actuallyย loweredย Durant's per-game scoring average during this streak...all the way down to 38.2 points. His single-game high during the streakโ€”54 points on Jan. 17 against the Golden State Warriorsโ€”was the NBA's high-water mark of the season until Carmelo Anthony scored 62 points on Friday.

So what will Kevin Durant do for an encore? Can he make a run at 63 points in a game? Can he continue his 30-point streak for another 10 games? It wouldn't be wise to bet against him.
