Knicks vs. Nets: What People Are Saying Leading Up to Showdown

Steven KornJun 5, 2018

When the 2013-14 NBA schedule came out New Yorkers were focused on four games, the four matchups between the New York Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets. These games were supposed to feature two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but that's not the case.

Unfortunately for fans, the Knicks and Nets are currently just trying to avoid last place.

Thursday night on TNT the 5-13 Nets are playing host to the 3-13 Knicks in probably the least exciting, yet still somewhat intriguing, game of the year.

Jason Kidd, now the controversial coach of the Nets, is greatly missed by the Knicks this year. Last year's second runner-up for MVP, Carmelo Anthony, is getting torn apart by fans, analysts and even his former coach for the slow start.

The Nets have a bunch of injuries; the Knicks have a bunch of drama. The teams are a combined 8-26. They stink, and there is really no denying it. Even Jason Kidd and Carmelo Anthony know the teams are terrible.

No one expected either team to be in this kind of a predicament, and the team's respective struggles have really only exacerbated the problems.

The news surrounding the coaches has been quite interesting too.

For Jason Kidd, the headlines came when he strangely demoted his assistant coach Lawrence Frank. Frank, the highest-paid assistant in the NBA, will no longer be attending Nets’ practices or sitting on the Nets’ bench.

The decision by Kidd was certainly a controversial one considering his lack of experience and Frank’s proven ability to be a successful coach.

The Knicks coach however, is making headlines for a different reason.

After the team dropped its ninth game in a row, Stephen A. Smith reported that coach Mike Woodson could lose his job if things get much worse.

Certain NBA fans don't think the coaches are the problems though.

The game has fans split on what they think will happen. Certain people seem to think their team has no chance and that they're doomed either way. Others however, seem to be a bit more optimistic.

For a game that everyone seemed so excited for at the beginning of the year, the fact that people may turn to the Jaguars-Texans game shows TNT that the matchup is not going to be fun to watch.

The Knicks-Nets battle could be a game that comes down to the wire, but do not expect it to be a pretty game of basketball.

As bad as the Knicks and Nets have been, one of them has to win this game.

It will be interesting to see if either of these teams can step up and maybe use the win to jump-start their season. I wouldn’t bet on that, though.
