Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 4: Last-Minute Options to Get in Your Lineup

Rob GoldbergJun 6, 2018

There is no shame in tinkering with your fantasy football lineup on Sunday morning, as long as you get the right players in your lineup when the games start.

Whether your key players are dealing with injuries, regular starters are on byes (yes, they started this week) or you simply need to replace a disappointing performer, the good news is there are usually options out there.

These players are available in most leagues and should be set for big showings in Week 4.

Terrelle Pryor, QB, Oakland Raiders

Opponent: Washington Redskins

Owned: 26 percent

While there was some doubt during the week that Terrelle Pryor would be able to play after suffering a concussion, it now seems as though he will start like normal.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com reported that he has been cleared to play, and he received increased reps in practice on Friday, indicating he is good to go.

As a result, the young quarterback becomes an above-average fantasy start against the Washington Redskins. Pryor showed last week against the Denver Broncos that he can be a quality passer as well as a runner, which will make defenses respect both.

Of course, the Redskins have had trouble defending both aspects this season and are dead last in yards allowed per game.

Pryor should be able to have a big game Sunday if he plays, and there is always Matt Flynn available if he does not.

Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots

Opponent: Atlanta Falcons

Owned: 7.3 percent

The truth is you do not really want to start a Patriots running back this season because you never know what is going on in Bill Belichick's head. Still, Brandon Bolden proved last week that he is worth a look.

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the young player totaled 100 yards from scrimmage on eight touches, including five receptions. This workload is likely to increase going forward.

New England loves to utilize running backs as part of the passing game, and Bolden is the only one on the roster with this skill set. He should remain the go-to player on short looks for Tom Brady until Shane Vereen returns in the second half of the season.

Things get even better this week, as the Patriots face a Falcons squad that has allowed the third-most receiving yards to opposing running backs in the NFL.

While this is a risky move, Bolden's ability to contribute in the passing game could lead to another quality performance.

Donnie Avery, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

Opponent: New York Giants

Owned: 12.1 percent

Jumping on a one-week wonder is not always a good thing if that one performance was a fluke. There is a chance Donnie Avery's 141-yard showing against the Philadelphia Eagles fits this description.

However, quarterback Alex Smith sent a clear message in that game that he would rather make the safe, short pass than risk a potential turnover. As a result, Avery was targeted seven times while Dwayne Bowe only had three looks.

Teams will continue to focus on Bowe as he is by far the most talented receiver on the roster. This will leave Avery open for underneath routes, and he has the quickness to pick up big chunks of yards.

Considering the New York Giants have allowed the most points in football this season, Avery also has a decent chance of finding the end zone in this one.

Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis Colts

Opponent: Jacksonville Jaguars

Owned: 19 percent

After Dwayne Allen was lost for the season, Coby Fleener was expected to have a bigger role last week against the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, he only had two receptions in the win.

Still, the opportunity is there for him to have some high-scoring games. The former Stanford player has a good rapport with Andrew Luck, and he has soft hands that will allow him to grab almost anything thrown at him.

This week, the Colts face the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars, who struggle in virtually every aspect of the game. Specifically, the defense allowed the Seattle Seahawks tight ends to explode for 112 yards and two touchdowns last week.

Fleener can take advantage of this opportunity and have a breakout performance in Week 4.
