The 10 Most Hilarious Football Commercials of All Time

Most of the time, they interrupt your favourite TV shows and make you reach for the fast-forward button.

Sometimes, however, adverts can be a welcome distraction—particularly when they involve football and don't take themselves too seriously.

Qatar Airways' "Land of FC Barcelona"

Qatar Airways' latest promo is hot off the press, and it features one of their planes landing in "The Land of Barcelona."

Once there, we are treated to Barca stars in an array of mundane jobs, such as Gerard Pique the grumpy customs officer, Lionel Messi the dance class instructor and former Blaugrana striker Gary Lineker as a cabbie.

The clear highlight, however, is Carles Puyol saving a couple of ladies from a falling flower pot by getting his head on it. We can only assume Puyol insisted on doing that scene "method" and demanded an extra few takes.   

Soft Bank's Kagawa Madness

This Japanese clip featuring Manchester United's forgotten man, Shinji Kagawa, will be the strangest thing you see today.

Soft Bank—who are not a bank but a telecommunications company—have the Manchester United star talking to a goal-scoring dog (who is supposed to be his uncle) about a beluga whale (which is actually Kagawa's dad). 

It makes a Russian meerkat selling an insurance comparison website seem completely logical.  

Nike Shox Streaker Shocks

Streakers usually don't get very far with their endeavours, but if this 2003 Nike commercial is to be believed, overweight naked men can outrun police and stewards all day if they are wearing the right kind of running shoes.  

Lucozade's Sunday League Old Timers

A 2008 Lucozade ad showed a spritely Sunday league team facing a motley crew of old and withered blokes who seem more interested in pulling each other's shorts down.

When the action starts, however, they show the young whippersnappers how it's done.

The Carlsberg Pub Team

Danish brewer Carlsberg has a solid reputation for brilliant football-related ads, and this effort from 2006 is no exception. 

Imagine turning out for your Sunday league pub team, only to find out you're facing the likes of Bryan Robson, the Charlton brothers, Chris Waddle, Terry Butcher and Stuart Pearce...

Carlsberg Aren't Football Agents...

Here's another Carlsberg classic from 2002, once again putting a new spin on Sunday league football. It's worth it for the look on Alan Hansen's face at the end.

The Carlsberg Fan Academy

Here's one more from Carlsberg for good measure. Prior to Euro 2012, the beer peddlers visualised an England fan fantasy camp, where Ian Wright teaches you to hug, Brian Blessed teaches you to chant and Diego Maradona mops the floors...   

Pepsi's Sumo Challenge

Sumo wrestlers probably don't make for the most mobile football players, but David Beckham, Emmanuel Petit, Roberto Carlos and friends clearly struggled against their oriental opponents in this Pepsi ad.  

Tiger Beer Football Jeers

Asian brewer Tiger released a series of fly-on-the-wall-style ads in 2007, many of which can be seen in the clip above. 

Their "interpreters" short is also worth a watch.  

Adidas' Footballitis Study

Prior to the 2002 World Cup, Adidas ran a commercial extolling the growing problem of "footballitis." None of the study subjects in the ad seem to have suffered too much as a result of their condition, though.
