Robert Griffin III Is 'Brainwashed,' Says Former Redskins QB Donovan McNabb

Alex KayJun 8, 2018

Former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb is once again drawing attention for his criticism of Robert Griffin III, this time attacking the young signal-caller’s relationship with the Washington Redskins organization.

As per Sarah Kogod of The Washington Post, McNabb appeared on his Under Center with McNabb & Malone radio show on Tuesday to talk about RG3's refusal to meet with him.

The former Philadelphia Eagles, Redskins and Minnesota Vikings quarterback appeared to be disappointed, but not angry, that Griffin is refusing to meet. Here’s what he said, courtesy of Kogod:

"

I’m just trying to help him. Clearly the young generation, they think they have all the answers. He’s going through a little turmoil right now, trying to make it out on the field, and it’s unfortunate. But that’s where we’re at right now as far as these young quarterbacks who think they have all the answers. Until things start to fall apart and come down trembling on you, then you want some help. But it’s a shame. I honestly think that over there in Washington, he’s getting brainwashed.

"

McNabb first made ripples back in May by questioning RG3’s post-surgery decisions.

Griffin fired back by telling Brendan Vaughan of GQ, "I don't think Donovan is an idiot by any means. But right now, it's probably best we don't talk."

At this juncture, it’s probably best that McNabb let the issue go and allow the 23-year-old Griffin to continue his rehabilitation and assimilation into the NFL without further comment.

While some of RG3's choices—such as weekly press conferences during OTAs and other televised appearances—may have been a tad questionable, none were malicious or posed any real danger to his promising career.

McNabb—just 36 years old at this juncture, although you wouldn’t be able to tell it by his comments—needs to abandon his quest to "save" RG3 and just give the superstar quarterback some space.

Unless Griffin truly does something to hurt his chances of success in the NFL, McNabb should reserve his judgment and use his wisdom to mentor other players in the league who choose to reach out to him.

RG3 has a good head on his shoulders and is just trying to do his best to increase his exposure during a long, slow offseason. He's certainly not brainwashed and—as long as he can stay healthy—is definitely in line for another big season in Washington.
