NBA Rumors: Latest on Beno Udrih, Greg Oden and More Offseason Buzz

Tim DanielsJun 8, 2018

General managers around the NBA know they aren't going to land any game-changing superstars this late in free agency. Yet, there are still players available capable of making an impact and they could become bargain signings in the right role.

Finding the right fit is often the most overlooked factor for fringe rotation players. Sometimes it's a smart move to accept a smaller offer with a team where they would receive playing time to prove themselves, which would help future forays into the market.

With that in mind, let's take a closer look at some of the latest talk involving players who should provide very good value if the right opportunity arises.

Knicks Haven't Lost in a Month 🤷‍♂️

Beno Udrih

Although he's spent most of the past two seasons coming off the bench, Udrih was impressive in nine starts for the Orlando Magic last season. He averaged 14 points and eight assists while shooting better than 50 percent from beyond the arc in those games.

He hasn't been able to maintain that level of play for extended stretches, but it shows he's capable of filling a short-term void while also providing production as a reserve. Marc Stein of ESPN reports he's done enough to generate serious interest from the New York Knicks.

It's one of those situations where Udrih should strongly consider joining the Knicks, even if slightly better monetary offers are out there. He would be in line for plenty of chances behind Raymond Felton and should shine in an up-tempo offense.

Greg Oden

Oden hasn't appeared in an NBA game since the 2009-10 season. Injuries have derailed a promising career, but intrigue continues to surround the former first-overall selection. Given a good run of health, he could still help bolster a rotation.

Multiple teams have shown interest and now it sounds like a decision is on the horizon. Ethan Skolnick of the Palm Beach Post reports Oden will likely pick a team within the next handful of days. Right now, the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans appear to have an edge.

Joining the Heat would obviously help in terms of pressure. With so much star power on the team, he would be able to work himself back into game shape at his own pace. That's key because pushing too hard could lead to another setback.

Antawn Jamison

Jamison is coming off a lackluster season with the Los Angeles Lakers. His minutes dropped, causing his scoring average to fall below 10 points per game for just the second time during his career. Now, he's looking for a chance to bounce back.

DeAntae Prince of the Sporting News reports at least four teams, including the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers, have shown interest in the veteran forward. He didn't provide a timetable for a potential deal, though.

Jamison averaged 17 points for the Cleveland Cavaliers just two seasons ago, illustrating he can still make his presence felt on the offensive end. He should be able to put last season behind him and supply short-term help another team.
