NBA Rumors: Latest Trade Buzz on Brandon Jennings, Jimmer Fredette and More

Alex KayJun 8, 2018

The dog days of summer are anything but boring in the NBA.

With the summer leagues starting and the moratorium on signings about to be lifted, the surge of offseason action has yet to reach a crescendo.

Plenty of trades seem to be on the horizon, as general managers hash out possible deals and work to finalize complicated transactions.

Let’s take a look at some of the latest buzz concerning deals that could happen soon in Tuesday’s rumor roundup.

Swapping Jennings for Teague

The Atlanta Hawks have explored a number of possible free-agent additions to help soften the blow of Josh Smith’s defection to the Detroit Pistons.

They now are reportedly looking into a sign-and-trade to bring in Milwaukee Bucks superstar Brandon Jennings.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the two sides have discussed a swap of up-and-coming restricted free-agent point guards, with Jeff Teague leaving ATL and heading to Brew City in exchange for Jennings.

Larry Drew—who coached the Hawks for three seasons before his contract expired and was picked up by the Bucks—reportedly urged the Milwaukee brass to pursue Teague, an efficient player who had his best season as a professional in 2012-13.

It’s an interesting deal on paper, as it would significantly shake up two middle-of-the-road franchises that are already undergoing major changes this offseason.

Stein notes that the Hawks would have to stop pursuing Monta Ellis if this deal were to get serious, as the high-volume shooter could hardly coexist in the same backcourt as Jennings last season.

Jimmer on the Block

Jimmer Fredette has had a rough tenure in the NBA, averaging just 7.4 points, 1.5 assists, 1.1 rebounds and 0.5 steals in 16.2 minutes over 130 total games.

The No. 10 pick in the 2011 draft is now being dangled as trade bait, with the Sacramento Kings hoping to clear some cap space to sign Monta Ellis.

According to Stein, Fredette is making $2.4 million for the upcoming season on a “virtually” expiring contract.

The Kings seem to having trouble finding takers at this juncture, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are one team that could be interested.

Stein found that while the Cavs are reluctant to absorb salary running through 2014-15—as they plan to make a run at re-acquiring LeBron James next summer—the franchise could potentially swing a deal for a one-year rental on Fredette.

The sweet-shooting guard showed a lot of promise coming out of BYU and could capitalize on his upside in a new location.

Warriors Finalizing Three-Way Sign-and-Trade Involving Iguodala

The Golden State Warriors are in the midst of complete a tricky three-way deal that will end up with Andre Iguodala signed by the Denver Nuggets to a four-year, $48 million deal then traded to the Dubs.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, instead of outright signing Iggy, the club will be able to retain enough salary cap space to sign Nemanja Nedovic, the No. 30 pick in the 2013 draft, and retain the midlevel salary exception.

The Nuggets will be getting a $12 million trade exception from Golden State and swingman Randy Foye—who last played with the Utah Jazz—on a three-year, $9 million contract.

For their troubles, the Jazz will receive a future second-round selection from the Warriors.

This move is smart for all parties, as the Dubs get some much-needed financial flexibility in addition to their marquee free-agent acquisition. The Nuggets are adding a versatile, proven veteran in Foye, while the Jazz receive compensation for a player who was going to walk away for nothing.

Hopefully, things go through without a hitch on Wednesday.
