NBA Rumors: Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala and Latest Buzz Around the League
The start of NBA free agency officially happened at midnight, but with the moratorium forcing teams to wait until July 10 to sign contracts, rumors of where top players will land is the talk of the basketball world.
Huge names like Dwight Howard and Andre Iguodala have become the focal point of the NBA, and all of the following rumors will have a major impact on how free agency shakes out.
Dwight Howard Using His Head Instead of Heart?
The biggest star to hit free agency this year will be center Dwight Howard, and after the madness that was the end of his tenure with the Orlando Magic, whether he re-signs with the Los Angeles Lakers or leaves is the biggest storyline of the summer.
While Howard has been known as a very emotional player on and off the court, per Hoopsworld’s Alex Kennedy, the big man is going to use his head instead of his heart to make this decision:
Howard is in the driver’s seat in the free-agency process and will be the most coveted player in years. Instead of allowing his emotions to play a part in the decision-making process, the idea of looking at every option equally shows his ever-growing maturity.
No matter where Howard signs this offseason, as long as he makes the decision using logic and reason and not his emotional personality, he will be successful moving forward.
New Orleans Pelicans Making a Push For Andre Iguodala?
The New Orleans Pelicans made a huge splash on draft day by trading No. 5 overall pick Nerlens Noel to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jrue Holiday, per Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, and now they may be looking to surround him with a former teammate.
With small forward Andre Iguodala hitting free agency, via NBA insider for Yahoo! Sports Marc J. Spears, the Pelicans could be looking to reunite the tandem:
Iguodala is one of the best two-way forwards in the NBA, and will add as much defensively as he does offensively. With an incredibly talented roster already, adding a veteran presence to the young core of stars is the smart long-term addition the franchise needs to become a perennial contender.
Houston Rockets Desperate to Move Thomas Robinson?
The Houston Rockets are one of the teams in the Dwight Howard hunt, per Ken Berger of CBS Sports, and the franchise will be looking to make a huge run at the free agent. To clear the necessary cap space to make that move, trading power forward Thomas Robinson has become a necessary evil, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:
While Robinson could develop into a star player, the price tag won’t be high.
As the No. 5 overall pick in 2012, Robinson has so much promise and has not been able to fill his potential thus far because he hasn’t found a rhythm with a team. After being traded from the Sacramento Kings to the Rockets, Robinson will be looking to find a permanent home.
Houston will be just trying to get out from underneath his contract.
