Scouting Guide
In spite of his tender age, Son is already a fixture in the Hamburg first team, where he debuted at just 18 years old. The young star is equally adept with both feet and at playing in the centre or out on the wing, where he compensates for a lack of explosive pace with exemplary ball control and vision to find his teammates or ghost past a marker.
Allied with this brilliant talent while in possession is a wicked shot once he comes to an end of a run, meaning that although Son is not a traditional penalty area forward, his scoring rate is more than respectable. A lot of his goals have been of the spectacular variety from outside the area, and this young Korean star is definitely one to watch in the next few years.
Where to Next?
An impressive 2012-13 campaign for HSV has put this youngster firmly in the transfer spotlight, with a number of clubs reportedly interested in completing a deal over the summer. According to The Mirror, sides such as Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Arsenal are all following Son's movements, but it is Tottenham Hotspur who are closest to getting their man.
That is, of course, if Hamburg are willing to let him go—something that is far from certain as they look to build on an underwhelming Bundesliga campaign over the last 12 months. Coach Thorsten Fink recently told Kicker (via Crunchsports) that he did not want his team's "piece of gold" to leave, and that in any case he had yet to receive a formal offer from any club.
