Zach Rogers: Video Highlights for Former Tennessee WR
He gets lost a bit in the hype surrounding teammates Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson, but Tennessee wide receiver Zach Rogers is a talented player in his own right.
Granted, the 6'0", 172-pound Rogers won't be drafted as highly as those teammates, but that doesn't mean that Rogers, who caught 32 passes for 491 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012, doesn't have plenty to offer NFL teams.
Here's a look at some of the talents the Nashville native brings to the table.
Starring Against Elite Competition: vs. NC State (2012)
1 of 5The 2012 season didn't get off to the easiest of starts for Zach Rogers, as he faced off against one of the nation's better cornerbacks to kick off the season—David Amerson of North Carolina State.
That didn't seem to faze Rogers. In the first quarter, Rogers showed off his speed by torching Amerson for a 72-yard scoring strike.
Shows off His Speed: vs. Alabama-Birmingham (2010)
2 of 5He doesn't get the credit he should, playing in the shadows of Patterson and Hunter, but Zach Rogers is no slouch in the speed department.
That speed was once again on display in a 2010 matchup with UAB, where Rogers caught a deep out at midfield and was off to the proverbial races.
Soft Hands: vs. South Carolina (2012)
3 of 5One of Rogers' oft-discussed assets is the fact that he has excellent hands.
Those hands were very much in evidence on this touchdown catch against South Carolina last year, which was Rogers' second of the game.
After lining up in the slot, Rogers streaks down the field, leaping into the air and securing the pass from quarterback Tyler Bray.
Working the Sideline: vs. South Carolina (2012)
4 of 5After torching South Carolina for three touchdown catches and 107 yards last October, the Gamecocks probably sent Zach Rogers a nice fruit basket when he left Knoxville.
On his third scoring grab of the afternoon, Rogers lined up in the slot, ran his route, came all the way back across the field and did a phenomenal job of dragging his back foot while reeling in the ball.
Granted, in the NFL it has to be two feet, but it's a great catch nonetheless.
A Smart Player: Team Profile (2012)
5 of 5Odds are that Zach Rogers' future in the NFL lies in the slot as a possession-type wideout, where his football smarts and route-running will compensate for his lack of so-called "elite" athleticism.
In this feature on Rogers done by the Volunteers, the youngster and his teammates describe how his knowledge of the game has grown over Rogers' collegiate career, and how that might help him transition to the National Football League.
