Watch Brook Lopez Show His Twin Brother Robin Who's Winning the Sibling Rivalry

Zach BuckleyMar 12, 2013

Apparently that whole "blood is thicker than water" thing doesn't hold much weight in an NBA playoff race.

Just one night after falling to the sputtering Philadelphia 76ers, the Brooklyn Nets returned to action with another winnable game on the schedule. They welcomed the New Orleans Hornets to the Barclays Center with the chance to cut into the 2.5-game deficit separating them from the idle Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.

They appeared well on their way to doing just that after outscoring the Hornets 28-19 in the opening period. But the Hornets, doing their best to play the role of spoiler, kept pace during a blistering second quarter that saw each side tally 29 points.

Once New Orleans started chipping away at Brooklyn's lead in the third quarter, the Nets needed a spark—like an I-can't-believe-he-just-did-that-to-his-brother kind of spark.

Nets point guard Deron Williams used a sweeping crossover to get himself deep into the paint. On cue, he spun around and whipped a pass to Brook Lopez near the top of the key.

Lopez has a strong enough mid-range game where he could have let it fly on the catch. Instead, he opted to take the pass in stride, using one dribble to bring him face-to-face with his twin brother, Hornets center Robin Lopez.

Brook switched the ball to his right hand to create distance between it and Robin. He then glided over Robin's outstretched arms, finishing with a thunderous one-handed flush that had Brooklyn's bench on its feet and the Twitter world buzzing with questions over family ties, commentary on a long-standing sibling rivalry and an ode to DC Comics:

"

Oh brother, where art thou? Brook Lopez POSTERIZES his twin brother, Robin with MASSIVE dunk #SCtop10

"

Mannn...Brook Lopez just put his twin back in the womb with that poster dunk!!! #Nets

It was the kind of play worthy of being the final act in the circus, a comparison Robin made to Bleacher Report when speaking on the brother vs. brother matchup.

The night kept getting better for Brook from there. His Nets entered the game's final two minutes with a double-digit lead, thanks in no small part to his team-high 26 points.

As for brother Robin, his stat line showed 15 points, eight rebounds and an unfortunate lock for the nightly highlight reels.
