Kobe Bryant's New Nickname 'Vino' Is in No Danger of Catching on

Kobe Bryant is a big fan of his new nickname 'Vino,' even if his fans are less than enthused.

Business Insider happened upon an interesting set of tweets from Kobe Bryant, the NBA star formerly known as The Black Mamba.

Oh sure, you can still refer to him by the former slithering and deadly moniker, but he has a new one he is work shopping around Twitter at the moment.

On February 28, Bryant tweeted this out to the masses:

Kobe Bryant @kobebryant

Omg . My man just gave me a new nickname and I love it! Ha #vino

Kobe Bryant @kobebryant

E=mc2 = #Vino

The reaction, as Business Insider notes, was not what the Lakers star probably wanted. Here is just a taste of some fans' opinions on the new name which is a take on Bryant getting better with age.

And then there was this shout out to the other newest and equally horrible nickname, Dwyane Wade's 'Wow' self-gloss.

G @clutchdagger11

@kobebryant thats still better then WoW

That was a nickname that even LeBron James had issues getting on board with

While there is a heavy cheese factor with the name 'Vino,' we will agree Bryant is far better than we thought he would have been at this age.

Seriously, the guy is a year older than Tracy McGrady.

Now when he throws down monster dunks like this on Josh Smith, we are willing to call him anything he wants us to.

It doesn't mean we have to like it.

While Kobe Bryant tries to get this nickname off the ground with the persistence with which he demands the ball, we will go ahead and assume this will be forgotten in a couple of weeks' time.

If we do buy into the new name, we can say the man is playing like some top-shelf wine at the moment. If the Lakers fail to make the playoffs, we may have to gloss him nothing more than 2-buck Chuck.

Hit me up on Twitter for more NBA nonsense.
