Kobe Bryant Drains Free Throw After Silly Gerald Wallace Wager

Gerald Wallace tried his best to get into the head of Kobe Bryant. You can probably guess how successful he was.

There was a great deal of chit-chat taking place between Kobe and Wallace at the tail end of Tuesday night's match between the Nets and Lakers from Staples Center, a game L.A. won, 95-90.

This video (h/t Hot Clicks) features Bryant taking some free throws and jawing with his opponent from the line.

It's hard to really make out what is being said, but the YouTube description attempts to read Mamba's lips:

Kobe bets Gerald Wallace $5000 on a free throw. Read Kobe's lips, "How much you want to put on it? How much you want to put on it? Five grand? Right here?"

Wait, did Wallace just bet Kobe five large that he couldn't hit a free throw? That's essentially the same as taking $5,000 out of a bank and delivering it to his house.

The NY Daily News has a slightly different account of the exchange between the two NBA players.

What was Wallace talking about? “I was trying to get him to close his eyes to shoot.”

...Turns out he would’ve – for a steep price. “I had to make a big bet,” Wallace said. “So I told him just shoot the free throws.”

Ah, now it makes sense.

It seems Wallace was trying to hook Bryant into closing his eyes for a crucial free throw in a close game. It proves Wallace wanted this game so much that he would pay at least something to get an advantage.

For Bryant, it seems he is very willing to shoot free throws with his eyes closed in a close game, if the price is right.
