Ethan GrantNov 7, 2012

The Boston Celtics outlasted the Washington Wizards in overtime on Wednesday night, picking up the 100-94 home victory to move to 2-2. The Wizards dropped to 0-3.

Brandon Bass was the difference in overtime, putting in five straight points to help seal the gap in the final few minutes. Rajon Rondo added 18 points and Kevin Garnett had 20 for the Celtics, who got their first home win of the season.

The Celtics survived a 42 percent shooting night and their bench getting outscored 53-41 to get to .500 on the young season. Martell Webster, Kevin Seraphin and Bradley Beal lead the Wizards with 16 points a piece.

Player of the Game: G Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

Rondo was a proficient 7-of-11 for 18 points and 14 assists against the Wizards. He was his usual penetrating, distributing self in racking up double-digit assists, and he managed to shoot 75 percent from the free-throw line as well.

It's just another day at the office for Rondo, who is approaching John Stockton/Magic Johnson territory with some of the performances he's been putting on in the assist department.

Up Next for the Wizards

The Wizards travel back to the nation's capital for a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. The Bucks boast an extremely quick backcourt in Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings, so the Wizards will have their hands full with John Wall still sidelined.

Up Next for the Celtics

Boston gets another home game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday at TD Garden. Even without the departed Andre Iguodala and new addition Andrew Bynum, the Sixers are one of the East's best defensive teams, and they will be a good challenge for Boston early on in 2012.
