Sacramento Kings' Tired Home Gets New Name as Sleep Train Arena

Gabe ZaldivarOct 17, 2012

You may find yourself dozing off on your way to see the Sacramento Kings this season, because the arena's new name features sleepy tones you just can't fight.

Nothing says a happening party like sleep, or even a sleep train.

CSN Bay Area reports on pretty much the perfect name change for the proud home of the Sacramento Kings, a team that may or may not be around in a few years.

The team released an official statement about the moniker switch.

"

The Sacramento Kings and Sleep Train Mattress Centers today announced a new, multi-year strategic marketing partnership to include venue naming rights for the Sacramento Kings home arena, host to hundreds of events annually—headlined by NBA basketball, high-profile concerts, family-themed shows and cultural experiences.

"

The name change may be a tad ridiculous, but that fits perfectly with the state this franchise is in right now.

The team shows promise with a young roster, but it seems every month there is a new rumor tied to a new destination the franchise may move to.

There was the report this summer that the Kings would pack up and move to Virginia Beach, and then a subsequent report that Anaheim may still be in play

It was enough to make any fan a little weary and in need of a well-deserved nap.

While the name may be a little silly considering the team's plight, the switch does show there is a company in the area ready to step up and attempt to keep the team in Sacramento.

According to the report, the company hopes this broadens their reach for such initiatives as their Foster Kids program, and create awareness for their already wide-reaching 250 stores.

The Kings are still very much alive, thanks to the Sleep Train.
