Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 4: Early Advice for This Week's Tough QB Choices

Ethan GrantJun 7, 2018

Week 3 turned out to be a bad week for several QBs projected to put up big numbers. Tony Romo, Philip Rivers and Alex Smith all struggled, and looking at Week 4's potential matchups, there are some that figure to struggle again.

Aaron Rodgers even suffered the wrath of a good defense, especially in the first half against the Seattle Seahawks. Here's an early look for this week's edition of start 'em and sit 'em, with some advice for QBs about whom you may be on the fence after three weeks of action.

Start 'Em

Matt Schaub, Houston Texans

After two paltry weeks in big wins, Schaub exploded for four touchdown passes on 290 yards passing. He's back in a big way, and he gets a Tennessee team that gave up big points to Matthew Stafford over four quarters, then Shaun Hill over half a quarter.

Reap the benefits of a big Schaub day, even though Arian Foster will likely get his, too. Tennessee has had some great D/ST weeks due to their return game, but the secondary is suspect for the Titans.

Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals

Dalton looked like he was in for a sophomore slump after opening week against the Baltimore Ravens. Then, everyone remembered it was the Baltimore Ravens defense he was playing.

Back-to-back elite weeks have his stock rising, and he'll have another good week against Jacksonville, which has given Andrew Luck and Christian Ponder solid days, but surprisingly given Alex Smith a poor day. Still, Dalton and A.J. Green look to see a lot of each other in the end zone in the next few weeks.

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers

It was a terrible week against Atlanta for Rivers. Expect a bounceback week for the Chargers QB, especially going against a defense that allowed three touchdowns to Drew Brees and New Orleans.

Kansas City's defense is underrated, but with Ryan Mathews a focal point (hopefully) of the defense and three solid receivers, I think San Diego will return to their Week 1 and 2 form, not the terrible Week 3 one.

Sit 'Em

Eli Manning, New York Giants

Although he's coming off the 510-yard game and another turnover-free week against the Panthers, I think the Eagles will crank it up and force multiple turnovers this week.

It's a division game, and on the road in Philly I think the Eagles will dial up some major pressure, forcing at least one interception and one fumble. Manning still will have a decent day, but if you have a better option at play, take it.

Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

Two weeks of mediocrity for Romo? That's the kind of prediction you get when you're facing the Chicago Bears and their vaunted defense. Romo's resiliency in this weekend's game against the Tampa Bay Bucs didn't show up in fantasy, but he survived a very shaky offensive line to lead his team to a win.

The O-Line isn't getting any better, and they're facing a much better defense in Chicago. Romo and the 'Boys are at home, but I see this one turning into a real defensive and special-teams struggle.
