Giants vs. Panthers: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Spread, Radio, Game Time and More

Adam WellsSep 18, 2012

In a battle of two teams coming off emotional wins last week, both the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers look to move over the .500 mark for the first time in 2012.

The Giants have had an interesting start to the season. They were overmatched against Dallas in the season-opening Wednesday night game and found themselves in an 0-1 hole. Things appeared to be going from bad to worse against Tampa Bay, but a furious fourth-quarter comeback got them off the schneid.

Speaking of getting off the schneid, the Panthers used a strong second half against New Orleans to get their first win of the year. They were able to rack up 463 yards of total offense—though they did give up 486 yards on defense—to put their division rivals in an 0-2 hole.

What's At Stake?

The Giants and Panthers are two teams still trying to figure out what kind of team they are going to be in 2012.

Last week was a huge victory for the Giants, who looked buried after three quarters against Tampa Bay. Eli Manning played a lot more like the quarterback we saw at the end of last year, but the team as a whole still has issues all over the place, particularly in the secondary.

The Panthers had some hype coming into the season thanks to Cam Newton's rookie campaign. They are still not a playoff team, as the defense is still too soft up the middle, but beating the Saints could give them a mental edge.

This is the kind of game that the Giants should win, but the Panthers have enough talent to pull off an upset.

Giants Player to Watch: RB Andre Brown

After years of watching Ahmad Bradshaw dance around in the backfield, Brown was a nice change of pace when he came into last week's game after Bradshaw went down.

The Giants have the talent on the offensive line and in the backfield to be a dominant running team, but because of Bradshaw's running style, it has been a long time since they have been at that level.

Brown has virtually no track record despite being in the league for three years, so he does have fresh legs for a 25-year-old. He showed a lot with his 13 carries and 71 yards last week, so I would like to see the Giants go back to him more often.

Panthers Player to Watch: RB Jonathan Stewart

The Panthers, like the Giants, are trying to figure out what has happened to their running game this season.

They have a respectable total of 229 yards through two games, but given the talent they have, you would expect to see them running all over everyone.

Stewart missed the first game of the season with an ankle injury, but came back last week with 51 yards on 11 carries against New Orleans. As he gets healthier, his role in the offense will increase and the running game will take off.

Given the Giants' ability to rush the passer, they should try to establish the run early to at least keep the defense honest before opening things up to attack the weak secondary.

Prediction

This game could end up being one of the best in Week 3 or end up being a blowout, given the way that these two teams tend to play. I tend to lean more towards the former because these two teams boast a lot of offensive talent and are capable of putting up a lot of points in a short amount of time.

On a short week, I am going to give the advantage to the home team, though I would not be shocked to see it go either way.
