President Obama and First Lady Enjoy Kiss Cam Controversy at Team USA Victory

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

Hail to the Chief, because the Chief gets the smooches.

Not quite sure if those are the lyrics, but it's all I can hum after a Team USA victory that was merely the backdrop to a great kiss controversy involving President Barack Obama and the First Lady.

Any great controversy is also multi-layered, and this one is no different. It involves some great quotes from a star NBA player, multiple videos and a debate that will rage on forever...or until lunch.

The First Family was in the house to watch Team USA battle Brazil in a warm-up for the Summer Olympics

The best in basketball had some issues early on with the Brazil side, but made up for it in the end, winning 80-69.

President Obama had a similar night.

Here is a video of the First Couple getting on Kiss Cam, one of the more annoying things you will find at a sporting event, accompanying the wave and a beach ball that suddenly becomes a multi-colored god that every person must touch.

As you can see, the President is turned away by Michelle Obama who is not about to give out her smooches for free, or for the masses who wish to see some presidential canoodling.

That's when the boos started, per Michael Lee.

"

Michelle Obama resists the President's advances on Kiss Cam. The 1st Couple gets booed! lockerz.com/s/225688586

— Michael Lee (@MrMichaelLee) July 17, 2012"

Thanks to BuzzFeed for the videos, but I can't seem to hear the boos. That's where a tweet from Michael Lee comes in.

"

I'm in the building! RT @songbirrd -i watchd the same telecast and heard NO boos

— Michael Lee (@MrMichaelLee) July 17, 2012"

Well consider the first video merely a dress rehearsal for the follow-up Kiss Cam. Here is another video of the couple, this time locking lips.

And all was fine in Whoville.

Lee gives us some more play-by-play from the building.

"

Barack Obama just got some loving from Michelle. This time, the President would not be denied. Lips locked. Malia applauded

— Michael Lee (@MrMichaelLee) July 17, 2012"

Kobe Bryant sounded off on the Kiss Cam debacle, via ESPN

"

You know, PDA is not for everybody, you know what I mean? But he makes the important decisions, so it's all good.

"

That's fine, because the President had a great soundbite for this 2012 squad who thinks they could take down the the original Dream Team.

Apparently, Obama was asked about the grand debate of who would win as he watched this iteration struggle against Brazil.

The Washington Post's Mike Wise has his answer.

"

The President: "I think someone else put it pretty well tonight: The Dream Team was never down 8."

— Mike Wise (@MikeWiseguy) July 17, 2012"

Not bad for a man who was forced on to the Kiss Cam only to be dissed and dismissed. Hail to the Chief, because the Chief gets the last laugh.

Follow me on Twitter because I get lonely.
