Adrian Peterson and the 25 Most Infamous Athlete Mug Shots

Mugshots portray our favorite stars in a light much different than the limelight that they are used to. Some photos may appear to be funny or goofy, but one must understand that these shots were taken at the darkest of times. The stories behind these mugshots range from DUIs, domestic abuse and even alleged murder.

While players like Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley and Kobe Bryant detached themselves from their mugshots, there are some players who never recover from their actions. 

Adrian Peterson is the most recent addition to this Hall of Shame, but he is certainly not the first. Follow this list to see the most infamous athlete mugshots in history. 

Jeff Garcia

Year Arrested: 2004

No, that's not RoboCop without his helmet.

During his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers, quarterback Jeff Garcia was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. 

Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Year Arrested: 2010

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was arrested after he allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend during an argument in front of their three children.

He also was booked on grand larceny when she accused Mayweather of stealing her iPhone.

Scottie Pippen

Year Arrested: 1999

Scottie Pippen was immortalized in his statue at the United Center as well as this mugshot—all while donning that same infectious smile.

Pippen was arrested on suspicion of DWI and refused to to take a breathalyzer test even though he denied being intoxicated.

Year Arrested: 2012

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested after allegedly pushing an off-duty police officer who was working security at a night club in Houston. Peterson was then told he was being arrested by the off-duty officer.

Kese Smith, Houston Police Department spokesman, said that, after two other off-duty officers tried to subdue Peterson, he began to struggle and resist arrest.

Year Arrested: 1998

Back then he was still wrestling under "The Giant" moniker for the WCW.

This sleeping giant was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself to a female motel employee. 


Charles Oakley

Year Arrested: 2007

Combine Charles Oakley and a wee nip of the creature, and somehow you get Denzel Washington from He Got Game. 

Oak was arrested in Auburn, Ga., after a police officer claimed he was driving erratically. After cooperating with police and taking a breathalyzer test, his blood alcohol level was found to be under the state's legal limit.

However, Oakley was still still charged with impaired driving and booked for failure to maintain a lane.  

Ric Flair

Year Arrested: 2005

Ric Flair surrendered to the North Carolina police after he received a misdemeanor charge for a road rage incident in which he throttled a fellow motorist.

There was no report on how many signature Ric Flair slaps the motorists took to the chest.  


Deion Sanders

Year Arrested: 1996

"Prime Time" was all smiles in this mugshot after he was arrested by Florida police for trespassing.

He was charged with a misdemeanor for fishing on a lake that was owned by the Southwest Florida International Airport. 

Michael Irvin

Year Arrested: 2005

Former Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Michael Irvin was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police discovered a pipe with marijuana residue in a Versace sunglasses case (keeping it classy) after he was pulled over for speeding.

Ricky Williams

Year Arrested: 2000

I know what you're thinking, and no Ricky Williams wasn't high in this mugshot.

Williams was actually arrested after refusing to sign a traffic ticket that was issued to him for swerving across lanes without signaling. 

Randy Moss

Year Arrested: 2002

Clean shaven and tight braids, how could this Moss do any wrong?  

Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver was arrested and charged with careless driving. To make matters worse Moss disobeyed a traffic officer and allegedly bumped his car into a traffic agent. 

The lyrics to "One Clap" rings true.

Charles Barkley

Year Arrested: 2008

It's not clear whether or not Charles Barkley was sweating uncontrollably or crying in this mugshot. However, based on what he told an officer that pulled him over for running a stop sign, those could very well be tears from laughing his ass of. 

Sir Charles was arrested for drunk driving and during the traffic stop he proclaimed, according to the police report:

You want the truth? I was gonna drive around the corner and get a blow job. 

"

Allen Iverson

Year Arrested: 2002

Allen Iverson, the former Philadelphia 76er All-Star guard, surrendered himself to the Philadelphia PD after he faced gun and assault charges. 

Lawrence Taylor

Year Arrested: 2010

Lawrence Taylor, the former New York Giant linebacker was arrested for statutory rape after he allegedly payed a 16-year-old girl $300 for sex. 

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Year Arrested: 2002

Stone Cold Steve Austin surrendered himself to the authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was charged with a misdemeanor assault after he beat up his wife.  

Dennis Rodman

Year Arrested: 1999

Dennis Rodman was arrested after he assaulted his then-wife, Carmen Electra. The charges against "The Worm" were dropped within a month. 

Jason Kidd

Year Arrested: 2001

NBA point guard Jason Kidd was arrested and charged with domestic abuse, which resulted in Kidd having to attend anger management classes.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson's attempt at the Michael Jordan dunk face just doesn't have the same cachet. 

"Iron Mike" was arrested for drunk driving and cocaine possession after a he was stopped by police  outside an Arizona nightclub.  

Kobe Bryant

Year Arrested: 2003

Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old hotel employee in Eagle, CO.

The case was later dropped after the female accuser failed to testify in court.  

Maurice Clarett

Year Arrested: 2006

Former Ohio State star running back Maurice Clarett was arrested after being involved in a police chase and allegedly spitting in an officer's face.

After the chase, it was discovered that Clarett was ridding along with a katana, an AK-47 and a few other deadly weapons. 

Tonya Harding

Year Arrested; 2000

Former figure skating champion and Olympian Tonya Harding was arrested for domestic violence for striking her boyfriend. 

Marv Albert

Year Arrested: 1997

Sports commentator Marv Albert pled guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery charges after Vanessa Perhach accused him of biting and forcing her to perform oral sex. 

Michael Vick

NFL quarterback Michael Vick was indicted by the Virginia grand jury for promoting dog fighting at his home as well as torturing and killing animals. 

Ray Lewis

Year Arrested: 2000

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was arrested and charged with murder after two men were stabbed to death at an Atlanta nightclub.

Lewis pleaded guilty to misdemeanor obstruction of justice and reached a settlement with the families of the diseased. 

O.J. Simpson

Year Arrested: 1994

Former NFL star running back O.J. Simpson was arrested and charged with murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and Ronald Goldman.

He was captured after a highly televised police chase that made his white Ford Bronco an infamous part of '90s history. The jury later found him to be not guilty.
