Ray Allen Rumors: Superstar Shooting Guard Would Be Wise to Sign with Clippers
Ray Allen has a difficult decision to make this summer. He’s one of the best available free agent shooting guards and a number of teams feel that adding Jesus Shuttlesworth to their roster will give them a great shot to win a championship.
Reports have it that the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers are among the most serious suitors for the NBA’s all-time leading three-point shooter.
According to ESPN’s Chris Forsberg, Allen will have to choose between “Boston's offer of familiarity and a big paycheck ($6 million) over other intriguing options such as playing for the world champion Heat ($3 million per season to offer) or the Los Angeles Clippers (full $5 million mid-level to offer).”
The last choice just makes the most sense for the future Hall of Famer. L.A. is an incredible location, and he would get a chance to play with Chris Paul, arguably the best pure point guard in the world.
A core of CP3, Allen, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Lamar Odom and Caron Butler can definitely compete in the aging Western Conference and would give the Oklahoma City Thunder a run for their money.
Allen would also get a lot more playing time, as the Celtics just agreed to sign Jason Terry, while Dwyane Wade is the regular starter at the 2 in South Beach. An out-of-position Chauncey Billups was starting at SG until going down with an injury and would be better served as a combo-guard off the bench if Ray Ray were in town.
If Allen is healthy, he’s certainly still a starting caliber sniper that would stretch the floor, free space up for Griffin inside and knock down open shots all day off pinpoint CP3 passes.
The fact that the organization can offer him nearly as much as the Celtics, give him a great chance to win a title and assign the most playing time should make decision easier than many think for Ray Allen.
