Brandon Roy Reportedly Drawing Interest from Mavericks, Lakers and More
Brandon Roy is going to be one of the hottest free agents on the open market this summer, and a number of teams are going to be bidding for his services.
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports (via Rotoworld), there are four serious suitors right now that could possibly be meeting with the former All-Star in his hometown of Seattle next week.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers could all use the former Portland Trail Blazer’s skills. He’d have a chance to see more floor time with the two former teams and a shot at winning a championship with the latter two.
Spears has found that Dallas has the most interest in snagging Roy out of retirement, and it makes perfect sense for the organization to pursue that goal.
If any team knows just how well Roy can still perform on the court, it would be the Mavs. He eviscerated them in the fourth quarter of a 2011 playoff battle and led the Blazers to a win after being down 24 points at one point in the second half.
B-Roy retired in the months following the Mavericks eliminating his squad from contention. His mounting knee injuries and pain were too much to bear.
Portland exercised its amnesty clause on the shooting guard after the lockout and subsequently freed him to sign with whichever team he pleases this summer.
Should Roy’s knee be able to take the withstand the rigors of the NBA schedule, he’s going to be a great pickup for whichever team decides to roll the dice. It will be interesting to see which organization makes an enticing-enough offer this offseason.
Roy is still an All-Star talent that can completely take over a contest, which is exactly why a desperate team like the Dallas Mavericks must take a calculated risk.
